S&P 500 opens higher, recovers 4,500 after three-day drop

  • The major Wall Street indices opened in positive territory on Friday.
  • Defensive sectors go down after the opening bell.
  • Energy stocks post strong gains on rising crude oil prices.

After closing the previous three days in negative territory, the main US stock indices they opened higher on Friday amid the positive shift seen in market sentiment. At time of writing, the S&P 500 Index was up 0.43% on the day to 4,512, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 0.35% to 34,998 and the Nasdaq Composite was up 0.57% to 15,336.

Reflecting risk appetite, the S&P 500 defensive sector, utilities, real estate and healthcare indices push lower after the opening bell.

On the other hand, the Energy Index has risen more than 1% supported by the 2.7% increase observed in US crude oil prices.
