After posting strong gains on Monday, Major US stock indices opened in positive territory for the second day in a row on Tuesday. At the time of writing, the Dow Jones Industrial Average is up 0.2% on the day at 34,460, the S&P 500 Index is up 0.23% at 4,206, and the Nasdaq Composite is up 0.35% at 13,690.
Of the top 11 sectors on the S&P 500, six of them are holding onto earnings after the opening bell, while five of them press down. The financial sector index is rising 0.65% as the best performer and the utility index is falling 1.1%.
Regarding US data, consumer confidence in the US weakened modestly in May with the Conference Board Consumer Confidence Index dropping to 117.2 points from 117.5 in April, while US new home sales declined 5.9% month-on-month in April.
