S&P 500 opens modestly higher, financials stocks post strong gains

The Major US stock indices opened slightly higher on Monday as investors gear up for key corporate earnings figures, the FOMC’s monetary policy meeting, and the release of high-level macro data later in the week.

At the time of writing, the Dow Jones Industrial Average is up 0.15% on the day at 34,093, the S&P 500 Index is up 0.12% at 4,185, and the Nasdaq Composite is largely unchanged at 13,927.

Among the top 11 sectors of the S&P 500, The financial sector index is increasing 1% on the day, supported by a modest increase seen in the yield of US treasuries to 10 years. On the other hand, the consumer staples index is the worst performer after the opening bell, losing 0.7%.
