The study phase on Line 20 – Rosa do Metrô, with its route scheduled to pass over part of Avenida Brigadeiro Faria Lima, the main financial center of São Paulo, enters a new stage this Monday (22), with the first of three public hearings to discuss the impacts of the project.
The line should connect the west zone of the capital to cities in the ABC region, where two of the hearings should take place: one in Santo André (today), and another in São Bernardo do Campo (February 1). In São Paulo, one is scheduled for January 29th, in the south zone (more details about the sessions below) .
The line's tracks should pass through approximately half the length of Faria Lima, between Shopping Iguatemi – the oldest in São Paulo –, to the north, and where the road meets Avenida Hélio Pellegrino, to the south. Two stations must be built on it: Tabapuã and Jesuíno Cardoso, close to the streets of the same name.
The line designed to pass through the heart of the “Condado” – as the Faria Lima region is known – should connect the Santa Marina stations, in the Água Branca neighborhood, to the city of Santo André.
The project should be carried out in parallel with the westward extension of Line 2 – Green – which passes through Avenida Paulista, the city's postcard and former holder of the title of the most important financial center in São Paulo –, with the creation of the station Cerro Corá, where integration will take place.
Under study, the Metro plans to complete the extension of the Green Line by 2029 and the first section of the Pink Line, between the Santa Marina and Saúde stations, by 2030. In 2035, the service is expected to arrive at ABC. An initial investment of R$33.5 billion is initially estimated to complete the two sections and the creation of the Cerro Corá station.

Proximity and integrations
In addition to Faria Lima, the line should pass through other points of interest in the capital, such as the immersive exhibition museum – like the one taking place now, about the series “Chaves” – MIS Experience (500 meters from Santa Marina) and the neighboring training centers in São Paulo and Palmeiras (800 meters from the same station).
Going from “Condado” to happy hour will also be easier, with the Teodoro Sampaio station close to the bohemian neighborhood of Vila Madalena (less than 1 km) and a stop – Fradique Coutinho, on Line 4 – Yellow, with which you will have integration – in the heart of Rua dos Pinheiros, home to restaurants serving different cuisines.
In addition to the integrations with Lines 2 – Green and 4 – Yellow, the service, which is expected to have 24 stations along the entire route, should have another eight connections with metro and metropolitan train services in Greater São Paulo.
One of the integrations should be with Line 6 – Orange, currently under construction and expected to start operating in 2026. The other two should be with Line 19 – Celeste – which should connect Guarulhos to São Paulo – and 22 – Marrom – which it should connect the capital to the city of Cotia, crossing the west zone – which works have not yet started.

Current scenario
Currently, the Faria Lima region, which went from a rapidly expanding corporate neighborhood in the 2000s to the most important financial center in São Paulo – and, consequently, in Brazil – suffers from a lack of metro alternatives.
While Paulista has three stations – Consolação, Trianon-Masp and Brigadeiro, all on Line 2 – Green and opened in the early 1990s – which extend along the 2.6 km of the route, Faria Lima, which is larger – it is 4.6 km long -, it has just one.
The only Faria Lima station is located at Largo da Batata, in Pinheiros, and bears the name of the avenue. Opened in 2010, it is part of the route of Line 4 – Yellow, the first in the system granted to the private sector.
To get from Faria Lima station to Shopping Iguatemi, you need to walk about 1.2 km (20 minutes). If the destination is Google's headquarters in Brazil, there are 2.4 km separating the two points (35 minutes).
Such a distance means that the stops on Line 9 – Esmeralda, of metropolitan trains and also privatized, end up becoming more attractive at certain points – but not so much: from the Cidade Jardim station to the Brazilian headquarters of Google, for example, it is still necessary walk 1 km, or about 15 minutes.
For those who don't want to take long walks, there are options such as renting bicycles – with prices starting at R$ 4.39 -, completing the journey with municipal buses – which take around 20 minutes to go from Largo da Batata to the meeting point. Faria Lima with Hélio Pellegrino – or use taxi services and transport apps.

Predictions
The hearings that begin this Monday are part of the process for Metrô to obtain the necessary license from the Environmental Company of the State of São Paulo (Cetesb) and continue with the project. In the study sent to the agency, the company estimates that this phase will be completed in the first half of this year.
The next phase, scheduled for completion in 2026, concerns the preparation of the basic project for Line 20 – Pink, with definitions such as the architectural design of the stations, engineering issues and management model (Metro operation or concession to the private sector).
By 2027, Metrô hopes to have all the licenses for the works and the necessary expropriations – which are not yet taking place, something highlighted by the company in an alert issued in December, after becoming aware of people pretending to be company representatives approaching residents of the area west of the capital.
