SP, BH and Porto Alegre may receive 5G in July, says Anatel superintendent

In an interview with CNN this Wednesday (6th), Vinicius Caram, grant superintendent of the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel), stated that the cities of São Paulo, Belo Horizonte and Porto Alegre can receive the 5G signal in July, since that all preparations are complete.

“If all activities are completed, we may have news to release these cities in July and the next capitals in August. But we want to take 5G to all Brazilian cities. Starting with the capitals, then cities over 500,000 inhabitants and then cities over 200,000 inhabitants, until we complete the schedule”.

This Wednesday, 5G technology arrived in Brasília, the first city in the country to receive “full 5G” technology, which is the complete experience of this signal. The expectation is that all capitals will have the technology released by September 29.

In addition, Caram evaluated the first day of 5G in Brasília. The superintendent considered it “a very good experience”.

“The potential of 5G goes beyond the user, it goes to the industry, telecommunications. Connectivity is the foundation of the country’s economic growth. We expect 5G to bring 1% growth to GDP and growth for agribusiness of over BRL 100 billion in the short term,” he said.

Today, in some cities in Brazil, the Dynamic Spectrum Sharing (DSS) standard is used, which, despite offering better quality, uses the existing 4G frequency, which is what happens in most countries, according to Ookla, the company responsible for analyzing internet access performance metrics around the world.

Data from the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel) show that 67 cell phone models are able to connect to the 5G network.
