The 27th edition of the São Paulo International Book Biennial started last Friday (6) and will run until September 15 in the Anhembi District, in the northern part of the capital of São Paulo.

This Wednesday (11), the public can check out chats and lectures with authors and personalities. Check out 5 highlights below.

  • Tiradas and Comic Strips: humor and everyday life in comics with Carlos Ruas, Estevão Ribeiro, Aline Zouvi and mediation by Daniel Esteves, at 2 pm, in the Hall of Ideas;
  • In search of happiness with Monja Coen, André Mantovanni and mediation by Antoune Nakkhle, at 4pm, at the Cultural Arena;
  • Writing is music: Chronicles of Brazilian popular music with Roberta Martinelli, Michele Miranda, Tom Cardoso and mediation by Maurício Barros de Castro, at 4 pm, in the Hall of Ideas;
  • Flaunting the word: Literary production from Hip-Hop with Renan Inquérito, Rashid, Kika Souza and mediation by Toni C., at 7:15 pm, at Arena Cultural;
  • Aging without taboos – SESC Table with Terezinha Rios, Silvetty Montilla and mediation by Tereza Freire, at 8 pm, in the Hall of Ideas;

How do I buy a ticket for the SP Book Biennial?

Tickets for the Book Biennial can be purchased at local ticket office in the Anhembi District or online, at Fever website or app . The event organizers recommend purchasing tickets in advance to prevent them from selling out before your arrival.

You have the right to free entry : teachers, book professionals, children under 12, adults over 60 and Sesc members with full credentials.

When and where does the SP Book Biennial take place?

The 27th São Paulo Book Biennial takes place from 6 to 15 September 2024 .

  • Monday to Friday : from 9am to 10pm (access to the event until 9pm)
  • Saturdays and Sundays s: from 10am to 10pm (access to the event until 9pm)
  • Last day (15/09) : from 10am to 9pm (access to the event until 7pm)

This year’s edition returns to a more spacious environment, occupying the 75 thousand square meters of the Anhembi District which was recently renovated to accommodate larger events. According to the Biennial’s organizers, the aim is to accommodate people more comfortably, to avoid mobility problems and queues, both at the entrance and inside the venue. All corridors must have at least 10 meters of space for the public to pass through.

What are the main attractions at the SP Book Biennial?

Over the 10 days of the Biennial, the following are confirmed: more than 700 national and international authors in meetings and lectures spread across the event stages.

National attractions

Some of the main Brazilian names that will participate in the Biennial meetings and lectures are: Conception Evaristo one of the most recognized black writers in Brazil, author of “Olhos d’água” and several other works; Stenio Gardel a writer from Ceará best known for “The word that remains”; and Ailton Krenak writer and indigenous leader elected immortal by the Brazilian Academy of Letters, author of several works, including “Ideas to postpone the end of the world”.

Also present Peter Flag one of the main authors of Brazilian children’s literature; Itamar Vieira Jr. author of the hits “Torto Arado” and “Salvar o Fogo”; and Thalita Rebouças writer of books aimed at teenagers, such as “Fala sério, pai!”.

In addition to Junior Rostirola author of the best-selling book in Brazil today, “Café Com Deus Pai”; the youtuber Felipe Neto who recently released “How to Confront Hate: The Internet and the Fight for Democracy”; and many others.

International attractions

Among the international names are Jeff Kinney author of one of the most famous children’s series, “Diary of a Wimpy Kid”; Hwang Bo-Reum representative of the wave of Korean books that has taken over the world in recent years and author of “Welcome to Hyunam-Dong Bookstore”; and Abby Jimenez responsible for several novels, such as “Forever Yours” and “Part of Your World”.

In addition, the singer and writer will also be present at the Biennial Hayley Kiyoko who turned her most famous song into a book with “Girls Like Girls: A Love Story Between Girls”, Lynn Painter, author of “Better Than in the Movies”, an absolute success among Taylor Swift fans and full of references to the singer, and more.
