SP City Hall recommends masks to fight monkeypox

The City of São Paulo determined, this Wednesday (24), the sanitary measures for the prevention and control of the smallpox of the monkeys. Among the recommendations for the population is the use of face protection mask covering mouth and nose.

The definition of the recommendations was in charge of the operational technical committee, which was implemented by the Municipal Health Department (SMS) of the capital of São Paulo.

“The recommendation is that the measures already adopted during the Covid-19 pandemic, such as frequent cleaning of surfaces, availability of containers filled with 70% alcohol gel or sinks with water and soap for hand washing, are reinforced”, he informed. the City Hall, in a note.

Schools

The SMS committee has not yet concluded the definition of health protocols that must be followed in schools.

“We are working on the details of the guidelines, but, in general, the guidance is that parents or guardians do not send their children to school if the child has any suspected signs or symptoms of monkeypox, such as skin lesions associated or not with fever, sores, tiredness and headaches, muscle and back pain and immediately seek the Basic Health Unit [UBS] closer to home for evaluation”, said physician Melissa Palmieri.

The City of São Paulo highlights that care for the general population with suspected cases of infection has been carried out in the municipal health network, such as Basic Health Units (UBSs), emergency rooms and emergency services.

SMS recommends that the population prevent itself through the following measures:

  • Avoid intimate contact, such as kissing, hugging or having sex with people who have a rash and or who have been diagnosed with monkeypox;
  • Wear a mask (covering mouth and nose) to protect against droplets and saliva;
  • Do not share bedding, towels, cutlery, cups, toys and personal items;
  • Wash your hands frequently with soap and water or an alcohol-based hand rub.
