SP City Hall signs agreement to grant Masp free access to the museum itself

The City of São Paulo will grant, free of charge, the free space of the São Paulo Museum of Art (Masp) to the institution itself to carry out cultural activities. The information was released by City Hall this Tuesday (12).

The measure, published in the Official Gazette of the City, is expected to be valid for 20 years, with the possibility of renewing the agreement at the discretion of the local administration.

To assume the management of the area to be granted, the museum proposes to assume responsibility for the janitorial actions. Furthermore, Masp will be able to use the space to promote cultural activities and projects, such as:

  • Exhibitions;
  • Large free events;
  • Implementation of systematic programming;
  • Commissioning of works;
  • Artistic installations;
  • Projections;
  • Workshops, among other actions.

According to City Hall, the agreement will only be signed after the Heritage Management Coordination of the Municipal Management Secretariat prepares the administrative concession deed.

The São Paulo Assis Chateaubriand Museum of Art (Masp) is a private, non-profit institution founded in 1947 by Brazilian businessman Assis Chateaubriand. The location was transferred to its current headquarters, on Avenida Paulista, in the south of Sâo Paulo, 21 years after its creation.
