SP Committee: Few data on antibody drop stimulate booster dose

The anticipation of the booster dose in São Paulo was motivated, among other factors, by the lack of knowledge on the part of the Scientific Committee about the resistance of antibodies created by vaccines that fight Covid-19.

“We don’t know when the level of antibodies starts to drop for all vaccines”, said Paulo Menezes, coordinator of the Scientific Committee of São Paulo to CNN this Thursday (2).

He points out that, although the data do not show an increase in severe cases this year, over time, the application of a third dose can help to avoid the possibility of these cases returning.

“We know that the booster dose significantly increases the level of circulating antibodies,” he added.

The application of extra doses was also anticipated because the wide vaccination coverage throughout the state allowed this to be done. Directing doses to strengthen the antibodies does not create a situation of taking vaccines from non-vaccinated people, says Menezes.

“We have a population here with very good vaccination coverage, we are able to expand the booster dose”, he guaranteed.
