THE couple suspected of locking their own six-year-old son in the trunk of a car to simulate a kidnapping in Jardinópolis in the interior of São Paulo, had the pre -trial detention decreed.
The decision was made on Saturday (12) during a custody hearing, according to the São Paulo Court of Justice (TJ-SP).
They were arrested in the act on the morning last Friday (11). The case drew attention after the mother reported the child’s disappearance to the Civil Police the day before.
During the searches conducted by the Military Police, the boy was located inside the trunk of the family car, parked near a woods in the city.
According to police information, the child was referred to the hospital and the Guardianship Council was called to accompany the case. A video made by residents at the time of the rescue recorded the boy’s withdrawal from the compartment.

The couple was indicted for the crimes of mistreatment, kidnapping, private jail and for submitting the child to embarrassment . The occurrence was registered at the Jardinópolis Police Station.
According to the TJ-SP, at the custody hearing held on Saturday (12), the arrest of both was converted into preventive, and they are still detained while the police inquiry continues.
