The São Paulo Court denied the request for habeas corpus from journalist Luan Araújo, convicted of a crime against the honor of federal deputy Carla Zambelli (PL). The decision is from the 19th, according to the state Court of Justice.
His sentence was converted into community service.
In 2022, Zambelli chased Araujo on the eve of the second round of that year’s elections, while brandishing a gun.
The parliamentarian became a defendant in the Federal Supreme Court (STF) in August 2023 for illegal possession of a firearm and illegal embarrassment with the use of a firearm.

Araújo’s conviction was in relation to a text that the journalist published about the persecution.
He said, in the text, that Zambelli maintains a “sect of extreme right-wing patients who follow her unconditionally and continue committing atrocities”. In another excerpt, the journalist said that the deputy is part of a “petty, malicious far-right that is a merchant of death”. The publication is no longer available. After a court decision, the text was removed.
