A determination by the TJ-SP (Court of Justice of São Paulo) stipulated a deadline of 48 hours for the city hall to explain the increase in bus fares in the capital.
Last Thursday (26), it was announced that public transport tickets in São Paulo will cost R$5.00 from January 6th. The adjustment is 13.6% and R$0.60 will be added to the current ticket value.
According to the decision of judge Bruno Luiz Cassiolato, it will be necessary for the municipal management to present technical studies, in addition to pointing out that the increase is scheduled to take place during the judicial recess.
In the document, the judge did not agree with the immediate suspension of the increase, as requested by PSOL parliamentarians: federal deputy Luciene Cavalcante, state deputy Carlos Giannazi and councilor Celso Giannazi, but determined that an explanation be made.
“On the other hand, it is a fact that, despite the technical study being carried out, the meeting in which it was prepared and supported must be held in accordance with the legal determinations that can provide transparency, security and popular participation”, excerpt from TJ-SP decision.

The increase
The new value was presented by SPTrans, the company responsible for transport in the municipality, during the meeting of the Municipal Traffic and Transport Council (CMTT), which was held this Thursday (26).
Other values were considered at the meeting, such as an adjustment of around 18%, which would make the new tariff cost R$5.20. SPTrans says that the new tariff of R$5.00 defined by the City of São Paulo corresponds to the lowest value among all those presented to the Council.
According to SPTrans, the new amount will be forwarded to the City Council, following the legal procedure. All existing free services are maintained, as well as the integration of up to four buses in a period of three hours.
