recent cases
In recent days, some cases of racial prejudice have taken over the news and social networks.
One of them took place in Niterói, Rio de Janeiro, where a retired public defender called a man a “monkey”. The moment was recorded on video and a police report denounced the crime as an injury by prejudice this Tuesday (3). According to the police record, the case occurred when the victim and a colleague were delivering to the luxury condominium where the former defender lives, and parked a vehicle in front of her home’s garage. She asked for the vehicle to be removed, and when she was not promptly answered, she called the delivery people “monkeys” and threw objects towards the van.
Another case that gained repercussion took place on the São Paulo subway, where a white woman asked a black passenger “not to touch her hair, because she could get sick”. Then a riot broke out at the station and security was called.
