This Saturday (11th) afternoon, Minister Luís Roberto Barroso, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), determined this Saturday (11th) the mandatory vaccination passport for all foreign travelers arriving in Brazil.
The decision was commemorated by the Secretary of Health of the State of São Paulo, Jean Gorinchteyn, in an interview with CNN. According to him, the initiative is “a victory — thinking about the health and life of the Brazilian population, in the fight against this pandemic and, above all, in science”.
Gorinchteyn also comments that this obligation is intended to guarantee the safety of Brazilians regarding their displacement. “We need to show that our country cares about the pandemic. For that, the mandatory mask, the completion of the vaccination process and the vaccine passport are important”, he added.
To that extent, only those dispensed for medical reasons or those who come from a country where there is proven no vaccine available or for exceptional humanitarian reasons will be exempt from presenting the vaccine passport.
The secretary also spoke about the fourth case of Ômicron in São Paulo, confirmed this afternoon. “We are mapping the contacts. We need to identify if it was a traveling patient or if it is a community case”, he stated.
This is a 67-year-old man who has not recently traveled to another country.
He has a complete vaccination schedule, took the booster dose with Pfizer, and has only mild symptoms such as chills, according to the state government. He finds himself in isolation at home.
The positive diagnosis for Covid-19 was on the 7th of December with an RT-PCR test. The sample was submitted to genetic sequencing, confirming infection by the Ômicron variant.
According to the government, it is not possible to confirm whether the situation already configures local transmission. The São Paulo Municipal Surveillance is looking for people with whom the man had contact. With this analysis it will be possible to identify whether it is an isolated case or not.
The other three cases of Ômicron in São Paulo were from people who had traveled to other countries recently, and all patients were fully vaccinated, having only mild or asymptomatic symptoms.
The last confirmation of an “imported” case occurred on December 1st. A 29-year-old man was tested upon disembarking in Brazil, at the airport in Guarulhos, a city where he was monitored by municipal surveillance. The first two were confirmed on November 30, and are from a 41-year-old man and a 37-year-old woman from South Africa, also with a complete vaccination schedule.
According to the Agency survey CNN, Brazil records eight cases of the Ômicron variant of the coronavirus. In addition to São Paulo, the Federal District and Rio Grande do Sul confirmed two cases each.
Also according to the CNN Agency, 60 countries have already registered infections with the new variant.
