SP: large forest fires reach cities in the interior

Three cities in the interior of São Paulo recorded large fires in vegetation areas This Saturday (17). The occurrences mobilized Civil Defense teams, Fire Department and, in some cases, municipal brigade members and heavy machinery. Despite the severity of the flames, there were no victims or buildings affected.

In Presidente Prudente, the fire started on Paulo Roberto Neves Silva Street, in the Industrial District, and reached a natural vegetation area before spreading to a land with recyclable materials.

According to the Civil Defense, approximately 2,000 square meters were consumed by the flames. The situation was controlled with the support of a tanker truck, and the place was left safe.

In the city of Botucatu, around 3:50 pm, a fire near the Municipal Cachoeira da Marta Natural Park, on the Marechal Rondon Highway, destroyed about 12 hectares of vegetation. Municipal brigade members, firefighters and backhoes were called to contain the fire, which was also fully extinguished. Watch video:


In Pederneiras, the fire began around 11am, at Manoel Fernandes Cara Street, in the Maria Luiza neighborhood, and reached both an area of ​​natural vegetation and a permanent preservation area (APP).

Fire consumed approximately 76 hectares, but did not threaten homes or cause injuries. Civil Defense and Fire Department teams acted in the fight against flames.

Also according to the Civil Defense, the climate is favorable for the incidence of forest fires, something characteristic for the period, but the causes of fires in all cities are unknown.
