SP launches inclusive destinations guide for the LGBTQIA+ community, blacks and seniors

São Paulo launched this Wednesday (24) the first Diversity Map of destinations, a guide that with 59 municipalities in the state classified as friendly and inclusive. The destinations were designed for elderly travelers, afro descendants, LGBTQIA+, disabled people e traditional communities.

The purpose of the map is to give visibility to good practices aimed at the tourism niche and encourage the adhesion of other municipalities throughout the state. According to Tourism and Travel Department, the third age is the group most covered by the municipalities (49%), followed by afroturismo (46%), accessibility (41%), community-based tourism (32%) and turismo LGBTQIA (29%).

It is the first time that a Brazilian state includes several groups in the same material that will serve as a guide for the population and for the places themselves. Based on the information sent, 59 cities will receive a series of actions focused on raising awareness and training destinations, as well as identifying and expanding the offer of products.

Destinations contemplated

One of the cities included in the map is Beautiful island, on the north coast, which stands out for its accessibility. inside, Jundiaí, with more than 400 thousand inhabitants, entered the list for a project that encourages seniors’ tourism – the city included 16 attractions for this audience.

Looking for 60 km from there, Atibaia is also included among the destinations: the city known for Pedra Grande has an inn focused on safely serving the LGBTQIA+ public.

Both destinations, Jundiaí and Atibaia, are already part of the Circuito das Frutas, a tourist hub very close to the capital formed by 10 cities that excel in rural tourism.

Other cities were also highlighted, such as San Sebastian, on the north coast, with its caiçara route that has cultural attractions for all ages, as well as Eldorado, a municipality of 15 thousand inhabitants already considered a tourist resort by the government, which has been promoting tourism in a quilombo.

The launch of the map took place at 5th International Conference on Diversity – LGBT Business, Culture and Tourism, from the LGBT Chamber of Tourism. According to the government, inclusion has been an important factor in the Secretariat’s performance: municipalities that serve the LGBTQIA+ community, for example, add points in the destination ranking survey, helping them to receive more resources.
