Sp. Libanos: Coronavirus is a tough and dangerous enemy – Vaccination is the only solution

The Minister of Rural Development and Food, Mr. Spilios Libanos, characterized the bill for the livestock facilities that is being discussed in the Parliament as a revolution in the field of livestock production, pointing out that the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development continues the dialogue with producers and political forces. He even announced that the competent Committee will be convened at its first meeting soon.

Mr. Libanos intervened in the discussion electronically, as he has been suffering from coronavirus since Monday. At the beginning of his speech, he referred to the pandemic and called on all Greeks to be vaccinated, while he also referred to today’s celebration of National Resistance Day, pointing out that when Greeks act together, they can work miracles.

Addressing his fellow MPs, Mr. Libanos said:

“Thank you very much in principle for the wishes…

Unfortunately, my wife and I and our little daughter, Aliki, who was not vaccinated, also got sick, because she is 10 years old, two days before I take the third dose, which would be a very safe precaution. The coronary is a very difficult enemy, I now know it experientially and let me say that I do not know if we are at the end of the beginning or the beginning of the end of this pandemic.

I know it appears every 100 years, I know it has huge losses in human lives and a huge economic and social impact.

I also know from experience that the coronavirus is a very tough opponent, a very dangerous disease and on this occasion I want to say in Parliament today and through Parliament to the Greek people that we have only one solution to deal with it: to be vaccinated.

Those who have done the two doses to do the third dose quickly. Those who until now had not been persuaded to run to get the vaccines. And we, especially the representatives of the Greek people in the Parliament, to set as our goal every day to convince ten, nine, five and even one of our fellow citizens to go and be vaccinated.

“This is our only defense and this is our strength to be able to bring normalcy back into our lives, to get out of this nightmare.”
For the celebration of the National Resistance Day, he noted:

“As for the colleague’s report on Gorgopotamos, today is indeed the day we have been celebrating the National Resistance since 1982, precisely to remember the battle of Gorgopotamos.

The Bombing of the Bridge was a great moment in our modern history and is one of the most important acts of resistance in occupied Europe during World War II.

But it was a historic national success, with insurmountable symbolic significance, because exactly the forces of the Resistance are united – together all, EDES, EAM, together Aris Velouchiotis and Napoleon Zervas with the assistance of the British allies, under the leadership of Filellinas MP Christopher Woodhouse, achieved a great victory against the united Italian fascism and German Nazism.

Rightly since 1982 this day is celebrated as the day of the national Resistance.
We are doing this precisely to remind us that the Greeks, together, are achieving timeless miracles “.

Regarding the bill, Mr. Libanos referred to the rapporteur Mr. Antoniadis and the Deputy Ministers Mr. Stylios and Kedikoglou, who presented it in depth and in detail, while he pointed out the important role of Mrs. Fotini Arabatzis, former Deputy Minister, in drafting the bill. .

As he said, the present bill comes to solve problems and to give a reformist breath to the Greek livestock.

He reminded that out of the 100,000 livestock facilities in our country, only 16,000 are legal. “The rest, although they exist in the Greek countryside, are invisible to the state. They exist but we do not see them. Now, we give our breeders the opportunity to legalize them. We stop hiding behind our finger.” Mr. Libanos reminded that the breeders with their representatives in the Commission embraced the bill.

He repeated the phrase of the Regional Governor of Epirus, a purely livestock region, that this bill is a revolution. And he added “it is a big step forward for the Greek livestock. As steps forward are the group for the feed set up in the Ministry of Agriculture, but also the group for the livestock and the planning of the national strategy. We are laying the foundations for a strong and sustainable livestock, which will use the funds of the new CAP. “Dialogue with both the parties and the producers. In a few days we will convene in the first meeting the Committee for the drafting of the National Strategy for Livestock”, concluded Mr. Libanos.
