SP plans to vaccinate all children aged 5 to 11 against Covid-19 in three weeks

The state of São Paulo plans to vaccinate all children aged 5 to 11 years against Covid-19 in three weeks.

At a press conference this Wednesday (5), Governor João Doria informed that the state’s vaccination plan is ready to be put into practice and provides for the daily vaccination of 250 thousand children.

“All the logistics and infrastructure was planned at the end of last year and is prepared to start immediately as long as the Ministry of Health sends the doses,” said Doria.

It is estimated that São Paulo has about 4.3 million children in this age group.

The governor demanded that the Ministry of Health, if it does not send pediatric doses, authorize Pfizer to negotiate directly with the states.

“Right now, Pfizer by contract cannot sell to other public entities,” said Doria.

He added that São Paulo is also awaiting the decision of Anvisa on the request for emergency use of Coronavac for the immunization of children.

“What would allow the immediate start of immunization of children with 12 million doses, here in the state of SP and would also allow children from other states to receive this vaccine”, declared the governor.

Vaccination sites

According to the government of São Paulo, 5,200 posts are already available to start child vaccination.

In addition, the state departments of Health and Education formed a partnership to allow the application of doses in state public schools.

Until then, 268 schools are already registered to proceed with the immunization. Registration in municipalities started on Wednesday (5), so the number should increase.

“The goal is to register as many state schools as possible so that parents can take their children for vaccination in an environment of extreme trust for children,” said Doria.
