SP: police disguised of revelers arrest cell phone theft gang

Police disguised themselves with revelers to arrest a gang of estelionaries that stole cell phones and cards in pre-carnival blocks on Saturday (15) in Barra Funda, west of São Paulo.

The group extracted the victim’s bank details to withdraw money from the accounts. Four people were arrested with 195 bank cards, eight cell phones and six cardboards.

The action, as part of Operation Carnival Seguro 2025, was carried out by police from the Department of Homicide and Person Protection (DHPP), with support from the Armed Theft and Assault Suppression Group (Garra) of the Special Operations Department (DOPE) of Civil Police. Barra Funda is in the script of the paulistano carnival blocks parades.

It caught the attention of the police infiltrated in the blocks that the suspects, aged 20-31, also behaved as revelers, but they acted atypically, often going to a car to leave something. They – three men and one woman – tried to escape the approach, but were contained by the police. The woman was sought by justice.

In one of the seized cell phones, an application that pulled the bank card data of the victims was found through Bluetooth. The case was registered as receiving, active corruption, resistance and sought after the 91st Police District.
