SP police recorded seven plans to attack schools in the state in two days

The Civil Police of São Paulo reported that between the 27th and 28th of March it registered seven police reports involving “teenagers’ plans regarding attacks in a school environment“.

Authorities suspect that the dissemination and circulation of images of the attack on the Thomazia Montoro State School, in the west zone of São Paulo, this Monday (28), in which a teacher was stabbed to death, may motivate these cases.

Thus, the Secretary of Public Security of SP, Guilherme Derrite, asked that the sharing of images of the attack stop. “The contagion effect is a reality and is demonstrating in practice what happens when a case is disclosed exhaustively in this way”, he pointed out.

According to the Secretariat of Public Security, the 13-year-old student who carried out the attack stated during his testimony that he used media examples to plan the action.

The aggressor was detained by the Military Police and taken to Fundação Casa. During the statement to the authorities, he showed coldness and spoke in the presence of his parents and lawyer, admitting having committed the attack.

This Tuesday (28), the Public Prosecutor’s Office requested provisional hospitalization and psychiatric evaluation of the teenager, in addition to evaluation by a Fundação Casa team.

Other registered cases

The occurrences, in addition to the case of the Thomazia Montoro State School, are related to the crime of threat and the apprehension of objects, such as knives and simulacra of firearms.

Among them is the case of a teenager in the 9th grade of Elementary School who was armed at school in São Paulo. The authorities were alerted via Dial Denúncia.

In Itapecerica da Serra, a mother reported that her son was threatened by another student at a school, who would have made promises of an attack similar to the one in Vila Sônia.

In another occurrence, military police were informed that a student was near the school with a gun. He was found with friends, and revealed a simulacrum after being questioned by security forces.

In São Bernardo do Campo, the vice-principal of a school warned the authorities that there was a student carrying a small dagger in the classroom.

After approaching the police, he said that he took the artifact to show it to his colleagues, without having threatened anyone, but reported that he had been suffering homophobic offenses and that he acquired the dagger to feel safer.

In Santo André, another three cases were registered. A student threatened a teacher during class saying that teachers should be stabbed, as was the case on Monday (27), and that he would do the same the next day.

In another teaching unit, the coordinator prevented the entry of a student after colleagues said that he was armed and that he would have said, days before, that he would kill another student after a fight. According to police, the weapon was a simulacrum.

Also in Santo André, an 11-year-old child was carrying a simulacrum of a firearm inside the school.
