The number of deaths from yellow fever rose to three in Sao Paulo. In addition to the deaths, seven cases of the disease in the state were confirmed, according to the State Department of Health. The victims of yellow fever did not have vaccination record and have an age profile that varies between young and elderly adults.
The occurrences all took place in the interior of São Paulo, where there is the predominance of the agent transmitting the disease, as it settles in areas of forest in which the presence of waterfalls, trails, sites and farms common is common.
In an interview with CNN Tatiana Lang, director of the Epistemological Surveillance Center of the State Department of Health, reinforced the importance of vaccination as the main form of prevention and essential measure to prevent serious cases and protect health.
“It is important to remember that yellow fever is an immunoprevenable disease. As much as, unfortunately, there is the circulation of the virus, we have the vaccine available for the entire population. Therefore, it is important that all those who have not taken the vaccine yet, seek a nearest health unit and get vaccinated. ”
The immunizer against yellow fever is part of the vaccination schedule and is available in all Basic Health Units (UBS) of the state.
“The recommendation in cases of interior trips is that people are vaccinated at least 10 days before moving to the region,” adds the director.
Compared to 2024, the number of deaths is alarming. Last year, only a death resulting from yellow fever was recorded.
