SP sets up crisis office to minimize risks from rains forecast for the weekend

The government of São Paulo announced that it will install, starting this Friday (18), a crisis office at the Emergency Management Center (CGE) to assist the population in case of emergencies caused by the rains forecast for this weekend.

According to the state government, electricity companies will have a representative in the cabinet, allowing for “more agile communication and more effective monitoring and control actions”.

Until this Thursday morning (17), around 36 thousand customers were still without electricity after the blackout that has hit the capital and the metropolitan region since last Friday (11).

“It is absurd and very sad for people to go days without electricity. We will demand all possible measures from the concessionaire”, stated governor Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans).

According to the contingency plan, around 5,400 Civil Defense agents will be on standby and teams from the Enel dealership will be inside the maintenance cars, aiming to speed up arrival at the locations.

The state may experience rain showers and wind gusts exceeding 60 km/h between Friday and Sunday. SP Civil Defense presented a detailed meteorological scenario for the next few days, emphasizing the chances of extreme events.

The governor and government representatives will be present at the Enel Operational Center over the next three days. State management also required a mapping of the most critical points that could suffer damage to the energy supply, such as hospital units and Sabesp water distribution stations.

The state government charged the concessionaires and demanded the application of contingency plans. In response, Enel committed to putting 700 to 1200 teams on the street.

Weather alert

Civil Defense issued a new alert for the possibility of strong storms that are expected to hit the state of São Paulo between Friday (18) and Sunday (20).

The alert is due to the passage of a cold front, which will bring significant precipitation, accompanied by lightning, gusts of wind that can reach more than 60km/h and possible hailstorms in isolated points.

According to the agency, the forecast indicates an accumulation of up to 200 millimeters of rain in some regions.
