SP should make 4th dose available to everyone “at an opportune time”, says secretary

In an interview with CNN, the São Paulo State Secretary of Health, Jean Gorinchteyn, said that the fourth dose of the vaccine against Covid-19 should be made available to the entire population in the future. According to him, at the moment, the focus of the campaign is directed to the elderly.

“We are studying from a chronological point of view. At an opportune moment it will happen [a abertura do público para a dose adicional]but now we want to protect the elderly, so that they are properly immunized”, he said.

The secretary recalled that the elderly “tend to not be able to have an antibody response as high as adults and young adults”, hence the importance of vaccination.

According to Gorinchteyn, the continuity of the vaccination program is essential to “reduce the risk of hospital admissions”.

The decision to release the use of masks also in closed places, for the secretary, was taken due to the falling numbers of the pandemic in the state of São Paulo.

However, he made a caveat: “The obligation drops, but the institutional component of people starts to feel free to use the mask or not, this will be the new habit, of having a mask in your pocket and evaluating if there is agglomeration, and choose to use them”.

Gorinchteyn reinforced that the monitoring of indicators will continue and spoke about the Deltacron variant of the coronavirus: “It showed a greater component of person-to-person transmission, but it was sensitive to the use of vaccines, we went through Delta, Ômicron and it was she who great protector”.
