The São Paulo Metro fired five employees due to a strike on October 12th. The company claims that the acts were not previously reported, which means that the faults are considered “very serious”.
Operations on Metro lines 1-Blue, 3-Red and 15-Silver were halted on the morning of that day.
In addition to the five dismissals, four other employees were punished: one was suspended for 29 days and another three were suspended without pay. They will be subjected to an investigation at the Regional Labor Court (TRT), which could lead to new dismissals.
The mobilization sought to counter warnings received by employees of Line 2-Green, classified as “inappropriate” by the Union of Subway Workers of SP.
In a note, the entity classifies this Tuesday’s dismissals as “unfair” and considers that they were carried out in “retaliation” for the strike on October 3rd. The Metro, in turn, says that “the punishments determined this Tuesday (24) are not related to the subway workers’ strike on the 3rd”.
At the beginning of the month, the acts stopped part of public transport, caused more than 600 km of traffic delays and were classified by the state administration as “illegal and abusive”. Unions claimed to protest against concessions, outsourcing and privatization of services.
