A party organized to celebrate the 94th anniversary of the Vai-Vai samba school had to be interrupted in the middle after reports of riots, on Saturday night (27), in Vale do Anhangabaú, in the center of São Paulo. According to the Military Police, the event was overcrowded and it was necessary to disperse the public.
The party started around 8pm, and the confusion started around midnight, during the show by the group Racionais MC's. As a result, shows by singer Negra Li, breaking dancer Nelson Triunfo, rappers Dexter, Rappin' Hood and Djonga, pagode group Doce Encontro and Vai-Vai's own drums, which would end the party, were cancelled.
Through social media, the school and the company organizing the event released a joint statement stating that there was an invasion of the turnstiles that the security guards were unable to contain and that, as a result, the police intervened and determined that the rest of the shows should be cancelled.
Still in a statement, the school stated that it regretted what happened and stressed that it “complied with the PM's order and valued everyone's safety”. The Public Security Secretariat (SSP) said that there was no record of detainees in the incident.
On social media, internet users reported that there was no invasion, and that the event organizers were preventing entry to people who had tickets.
A CNN contacted the event organizer to ask about the reports and refund information, but there was no response.
