They reached International Space Station (ISS) the four astronauts of the SpaceX space capsule, two days before the return of the last crew scheduled to leave the ISS.
The last four astronauts make Crew 4. It is the fourth ISS crew that NASA launched with a SpaceX capsule since the said California-based company began flying NASA astronauts in 2020.
The Crew Dragon space capsule met with the space station less than 16 hours after it was launched from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral. It signaled one of Elon Musk’s shortest SpaceX flights to the ISS from launch to mooring, according to NASA commentators.
The fully automated attachment of the space capsule took place at 02:37 Greek time, while the Dragon capsule codenamed “Freedom” and the space station were moving at a speed of about 420 kilometers over the central Pacific Ocean, according to NASA.
The crew consisted of three Americans astronauts NASA (49-year-old mission commander Kiel Lindgren, 47-year-old mission pilot Bob Hines, 33-year-old space mission specialist Jessica Watkins), as well as 45-year-old Italian astronaut Samantha Cristoforestiki from the European Service (ESA).
After the mooring, the APE reports, citing Reuters, which took place before the scheduled time, the crew members began the predetermined two-hour leak control process, as well as the decompression control of the connection corridor between the capsule and the ISS, preparing for the opening of the special access box to the International Space Station.
The new arrivals will be welcomed by a crew of seven ISS astronauts, the four crew members they replace (three Americans and a German ESA astronaut) as their mission ends in early May, as well as three Russian astronauts.
