“Spaceships and extraterrestrial technology”: What we know about the long-awaited US UFO report

The US government’s long-awaited UFO sighting report did not find any evidence of extraterrestrial activity, but it does not rule it out, according to officials in the US media.

The 120 incident report is expected to conclude that US technology is not associated with most cases. But beyond that, the report does not make any definitive assessments of what these unknown objects may be, the officials note.

A declassified version of the report is expected to be handed over to lawmakers in June, according to the BBC. The report is the product of an army working group set up last year to investigate unexplained decades of US airspace.

The Department of Defense wanted to “improve its understanding” of unidentified aerial phenomena known as UFOs, and determine whether they pose a threat to national security.

The publication of the report has aroused great interest among Americans and not only, where UFOs have long been a source of conspiracy theories.

Speculation by UFO fans about its contents erupts shortly before its scheduled release to Congress on June 25.

What we know about the UFO report

Information first came to light in the New York Times, followed by CNN and the Washington Post. The media spoke with several government officials about the findings of the long-awaited report.

The officials said that of the more than 120 cases recorded in the last two decades, the majority were reported by members of the US Navy.

CNN spoke to three sources who said that the report does not rule out extraterrestrial activity as a possible explanation for some of these cases. However, there is no evidence that the phenomena seen by Navy pilots in recent years were extraterrestrial spacecraft, according to the Times.

Citing intelligence officials, the paper noted that the experimental technology of an adversary, such as China or Russia, could explain at least some of the aerial phenomena.

What incidents have been reported

Some incidents have been discussed recently, renewing interest in the UFO. CBS News’ 60 Minutes show interviewed US Navy pilots who talked about an unexplained aircraft flying much faster than they had ever seen.

A retired pilot, Ryan Graves, said his squadron of fighters began seeing UFOs hovering over restricted airspace off the coast of Virginia in 2014. According to him, the objects had no visible exhaust and were traveling at speeds that seemed to defy the limits of known technology.

He said pilots trained on the Atlantic coast saw similar things “every day for at least two years”.

Last month, former U.S. intelligence official Luis Elizondo told ABC News that some of the items “could surpass anything we have.” “The question is, what is it? The point is, we just don’t know. “, he said.

Last April, Defense Ministry releases three declassified videos of “unexplained aerial phenomena” and stressed that he wants to “clear up any misunderstandings from the public about whether the material”, which was leaked in 2007 and 2017, “was true”.
