The joint mission between NASA and SpaceX to launch astronauts to the International Space Station, which was ready for launch, according to the US space agency on Thursday morning (24), has been postponed to Saturday (26).
“The new launch date gives teams more time to complete and discuss analyses,” SpaceX posted on X, formerly Twitter.
Dubbed Crew-7, the mission is due to take off from Kennedy Space Center in Florida. She is part of NASA’s commercial crew program that pays private companies to fly astronauts to the station.
SpaceX will broadcast the launch live at 4:27 am (Brasília time) – see below .
“Operations teams have not identified any significant issues with the Falcon 9 or the Dragon spacecraft. NASA and SpaceX spent Wednesday working on final launch preparations, with the remaining work expected to be completed prior to launch.”
Launch weather looked good, with the US Space Force predicting a 90% chance of favorable conditions.
The mission crew includes NASA astronaut Jasmin Moghbeli, European Space Agency astronaut Andreas Mogensen, Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency astronaut Satoshi Furukawa and Roscosmos cosmonaut Konstantin Borisov.
If the launch goes as planned, SpaceX’s Dragon capsule, called Endurance, will dock with the space station after about 23 hours, and remain there for a six-month mission.
If the launch is postponed, NASA and SpaceX can try again on Sunday (27), at 4:04 am (Brasilia time).
