A SpaceX space company Elon Musk, confirmed the Starship's third flight to the Thursday morning (14) . The launch will be made in Boca Chica, Texas, in the United States and is scheduled for 9 am (Brasília time), with a testing window for 110 minutes .
SpaceX received authorization from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) responsible for licensing commercial rocket launches, for the mission this Wednesday afternoon (13).
“The FAA determined that SpaceX met all rsafety, environmental, political and financial responsibility requirements “, the agency said in a press release.
Starship, a rocket measuring almost 120 meters high, is considered the most powerful in the world and was built with the aim of one day taking astronauts to the Moon via NASA, and, if everything goes well, humans to Mars.
“The third flight test aims to build on what we learned from previous flights as we attempt a series of ambitious goals. It will also fly on a new trajectory, with the Starship destined to crash into the Indian Ocean. This new flight path allows us to experiment with new techniques, such as burning engines in space, while maximizing public safety,” says the company on its official website.
Starship's third flight takes place after two failed attempts in 2023.
Two other Starship flights had problems
The last Starship flight carried out by SpaceX took place in November 2023, but a failure led engineers to lose contact with the ship in space.
Starship left Elon Musk's company base, also in Boca Chica, Texas, at around 10 am (Brasília time). The flight was initially successful, as the rocket managed to reach space for the first time. However, about 10 minutes after launch, the SpaceX team on the ground stopped receiving data from the ship's second stage.
Engineers believe the module was lost in space. The first test, in April of the same year, also had problems, ending in an explosion.
How to watch Starship's third flight
The rocket launch can be followed by a live broadcast that will begin around 30 minutes before takeoff.
The transmission will take place through the SpaceX profile (@SpaceX) on X (formerly Twitter) and on the official website. The company warns, however, that the schedule is “dynamic and may change, so stay tuned to our X account for updates.”
