SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket with four “novice” ordinary civilians on an ambitious space journey, successfully took off Wednesday night (shortly after 3:00 a.m. Greek time) from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida, on the first tourist, space mission, without a professional astronaut on board, for the first time in history.
Among the four American tourists on board the Inspiration4 mission is billionaire Jared Eisakman, who chartered the Falcon 9 for the trip.
Elon Musk’s company said that about 12 minutes after launch, the Dragon space capsule successfully detached from the Falcon 9 rocket, sending the four tourists alone into space.
They are expected to make a three-day space trip, and will travel a little further from the International Space Station.
