The mission SpaceX Crew-9 – which should bring the Starliner astronauts, Suni Williams and Butch Wilmore back to Earth – should take off this Saturday afternoon (28). Check out how to watch below.
The launch is scheduled to take place at 2:17 pm (Brasília time), from the Space Launch Complex-40, at the Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, in Florida (USA).
The NASA astronaut Nick Hague and the Roscosmos cosmonaut Aleksandr Gorbunov will take off aboard the SpaceX Dragon spacecraft towards the International Space Station (ISS) as commander and mission specialist, respectively. The launch takes place through a partnership between NASA and SpaceX.
The other two crew members who would have been on the flight were cut to make room for Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams who have been aboard the ISS since June following the inaugural flight of Boeing’s Starliner.
Wilmore and Williams’ mission was expected to last just eight days, but technical problems presented by Starliner meant that the two were “trapped” in space while their ship returned to Earth alone for safety reasons.
The Starliner astronauts should only return home in February 2025, alongside Hague and Gorbunov on the SpaceX spacecraft.
How to watch the SpaceX Crew-9 launch?
The launch of the mission will be broadcast through official NASA channels and can be followed on the space agency’s YouTube channel.
The live broadcast starts around 10 am (Brasília time) on Saturday, to follow the preparations until takeoff — scheduled for 2:17 pm.
