At the end of last year and in the first half of this, SpaceX was actively increasing the Starlink grouping of aircraft in orbit – it is they who provide access to the so-called satellite Internet of Elon Musk. However, in the summer, Starlink launches were interrupted – and now it became clear why.
It’s all about testing the Starship spacecraft. Apparently, the specialists involved in the Starlink project were transferred to the Starship project. As a reminder, on August 7, SpaceX experts put the Starship together for the first time. And this, by the way, is the largest rocket in the history of mankind. Accordingly, it took a long time to prepare for this, and therefore the launches of new Starlink satellites had to be postponed. But not for long: the new Starlink aircraft will go into orbit in early September.
The US regulator has approved 21 Starlink mission launches. Considering that Falcon 9 launches 60 satellites into orbit at a time, from early September to early March next year (that is, in about six months), SpaceX will launch 1260 satellites into orbit. At the moment, the Starlink system is represented by 1,740 satellites, which means that in a year there will be 3,000 of them. This will improve the coverage of satellite Internet in different parts of the Earth, as well as significantly increase the data transfer rate.
