SpaceX has often made headlines lately: Elon Musk’s company is launching satellites into orbit, actively testing a prototype of an interplanetary spacecraft, and has now announced the first ever flight into space of four civilians. The mission is called Inspiration4, it starts at the end of this year from the Kennedy Space Center (Florida, USA).
The crew commander will be Jared Isaacman, founder and CEO of Shift4 Payments. The mission is charitable: individuals will pay for the flight, and the collected money will be transferred to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, dedicated to the research and treatment of severe childhood cancers and palliative care. Isaacman has donated $ 100 million to the hospital and intends to raise another $ 200 million (Isaacman has booked three seats out of four).
All members of the mission will undergo compulsory pre-flight training, within the framework of which they will learn how to handle spacesuits, move in zero gravity, etc.
