SpaceX has officially announced that the team’s first fully civilian mission, Inspiration4, is ready to launch, which is scheduled for September 15th.
As part of the Inspiration4 mission, four tourists will go on a space flight, the launch will be carried out from the Kennedy Space Center. The crew of four will embark on the Crew Dragon on a three-day voyage around Earth, after which the ship will land in the Atlantic Ocean.
Billionaire Jared Issacman, founder of Shift4 Payments, is the crew commander. He was joined by Haley Arceneaux, Sian Proctor and Chris Sembroski. Arsenault, a childhood bone cancer survivor, was selected to represent the charity, while Proctor and Sembrosky were selected through a global competition.
Both the Crew Dragon and the Falcon 9 rocket have been in space before. They were approved for launch after the team thoroughly examined each of the ship’s systems, as well as ground support data from the launch pad.
No member of the mission is a professional astronaut. They are due to arrive at the launch site on September 9 to begin final preparations for the flight. The reserve launch day is set for September 16.
