SpaceX founder Elon Musk tweeted that Crew Dragon Resilience, which spent three days in orbit, landed in the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Florida.
Recall that on September 16, SpaceX launched four space tourists into space. This is the company’s first mission exclusively with civilians on board, dubbed Inspiration4.
The team included billionaire entrepreneur Jared Isaacman, founder of payment processing company Shift4 Payments, Hayley Arceneaux, 29-year-old physician assistant, Christopher Sembroski, data engineer at Lockheed Martin, and Sian Proctor, a geologist and former NASA astronaut candidate.
Both the Crew Dragon and the Falcon 9 rocket have been in space before. They were approved for launch after the crew carefully examined each of the ship’s systems, as well as ground support data from the launch pad.
This mission has become historic for a number of reasons, in particular, this is the first civilian manned flight into space. The youngest American traveled to space, as well as the first person with a prosthesis. The first black female pilot flew the spacecraft, while SpaceX flew three Dragon ships in space at the same time.
After splashdown, the spacecraft was taken out of the water and lifted onto the deck of the ship, and the crew underwent a medical examination, and then returned by helicopter to the Kennedy Space Center.
