SpaceX’s Starlink satellite internet can be disconnected for many hours due to antenna overheating. The temperature should not exceed 50 degrees

One of the users of the satellite Internet SpaceX Starlink reported that his equipment had shut down for more than seven hours due to overheating. More specifically, the software issued a message “Offline: Thermal shutdown”, specifying that the connection will resume when the equipment cools down.

It happened in Arizona at 11:30 local time, and the connection was fully resumed only at 19:00. According to SpaceX’s comments, that day in the designated location, the air temperature rose to 50 degrees.

The antenna, in turn, is designed to work in the range from -21 degrees to 49 degrees, but it turns off when it reaches 50 degrees. After shutdown, the equipment returns to work when the temperature drops to 40 degrees.

Interestingly, the owner of the equipment tried to sprinkle water on the antenna, which led to an immediate restoration of the connection, but not for long.

After the story was published, other Starlink users began to write that they also faced equipment shutdown due to antenna overheating. At the same time, in some cases, the air temperature was noticeably below 50 degrees, but this does not mean that the antenna temperature was the same.
