The Spanish government is finally abandoning the plan to impose a ceiling of 180 euros / megawatt hour on the wholesale price of electricity in the European Union, which it was to present at the “27” Summit, according to the Spanish newspaper El Pais.

Spain had agreed with Portugal to raise the issue of wholesale electricity prices, with energy prices fluctuating “wildly” for months – and especially after the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
The proposal included an EU subsidy for gas-fired power plants in the event that their fuel costs exceeded the ceiling.
