Spain: Former government minister Atnar sentenced to 10 years in prison

Spanish justice today sentenced to 10 years and 5 months in prison a former minister and representative of the conservative government of Jose Maria Atnar, who was found guilty of corruption when he was head of the Valencia region. Eduardo Thaplana, aged 68 and a former executive of the right-wing People’s Party (PP), was convicted of dereliction of duty, money laundering, corruption and using forgeries, fined more than 25 million euros and banned from holding public office for almost 18 years .
