Spain has approved the coronavirus vaccine for children aged 5 to 11 years

The Spanish health commission on Tuesday approved the coronavirus vaccination for children aged 5 to 11, following a recommendation made by the European Union’s regular health authority late last month.

The Spanish authorities estimate that the vaccination of children will start on December 13, when the first doses of Pfizer / BioNTech vaccines are expected to arrive, said the Minister of Health, Carolina Darias, speaking to reporters in Brussels, where she attended the meeting. European Health Ministers.

The decision came as the country, with a vaccination coverage rate of almost 80% across the territory, is trying to cope with the recent rise in coronavirus cases, according to Reuters.

Vaccinating children and young people, who can inadvertently transmit the coronavirus to others, is considered a critical step in reducing the pandemic.

European Union countries, such as Germany, Italy, the Czech Republic and Greece, have already approved the vaccination of children under 12 years of age.
