Spain: He tried to drown his partner in a fountain

Her police of Spain arrested a man at Valencia after he attempted to drown a woman who was allegedly his partner in fountain in a town square.

The incident happened last Tuesday afternoon (9/8) with the video of the shocking attack going viral. The man, aged 52, had grabbed the woman by the neck and then by the hair and submerged her several times in the water, wanting to kill her. Passersby called the police. Arriving at the scene, they separated the man from the victim and handcuffed him.

Before that, however, citizens who saw the incident entered the fountain and began to beat the man in order to free the woman.

According to police authorities, the victim and the man knew each other and shortly before the attack that has shocked public opinion in Spain – a country showing an increase in femicides – entered the fountain to cool off. A third person then appeared to ask the man for his phone so he could take a picture of them. The stranger disappeared with the mobile phone.

The man immediately accused the woman of working with the stranger to steal his cell phone. Then, his violent attack began.

The police offered clothes to the woman who was left half-naked, while the man had a wound on his face from the blows of passers-by.
