NATO support for Ukraine is unwavering and Russian President Vladimir Putin will not achieve his goals in this country, which was invaded by Russia on February 24, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said today.
“Supporting Ukraine resolutely is the only way to ensure that Europe and the world we have built have a secure future,” Sanchez said at an event marking the 40th anniversary of Spain’s accession to the alliance.
Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albaras said earlier that Spain was in favor of a new package of European sanctions against Moscow, but added that no agreement had been reached so far as some member states remained heavily dependent on Russian crude imports for prohibit them.
“There are two goals we have when we adopt a package of sanctions. One is not to allow (Russian President) Vladimir Putin to finance his war effort with European funds and the other is not to allow Vladimir Putin’s war to destabilize it. “European Union,” Albares said in an interview with state-run TVE.
