Spain: In practice, equality applies – 17 weeks permission to mothers and fathers

Spain has announced plans today to give both mothers and fathers an additional week of work after the birth of a child, expanding one of the most generous parental leave in Europe at 17 weeks. Spain and Finland are the only EU countries that offer equal parental leave with full earnings to both parents. “Spain is heading for feminism and equality … and there will be no return. We look forward, “Labor Minister Yolanda Diath said during a press conference. “Four out of 10 men in our country are now getting parental leave.
