Spain’s Covid-19 infection rate has risen to more than 500 cases per 100,000 people today, exceeding what was considered a “very high risk” by the country’s health ministry and having more than doubled since early December.
Today, the infection or incidence index, as measured in the previous 14 days, amounted to 511 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, an increase of 38 compared to 473 yesterday.
According to the Spanish Ministry of Health, 33,359 new cases and 41 deaths were recorded.
About 80% of the Spanish population of 47 million have been fully vaccinated against Covid-19 and about 10 million Spaniards have received booster doses.
Yesterday, Spain approved the granting of supportive doses to citizens over 40 years of age.
The country has a total of 5.46 million cases and 88,708 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.
