Spain permanently withdraws ambassador in Buenos Aires

Madrid has permanently withdrawn its ambassador in Buenos Aires, said the Spanish foreign minister, José Manuel Albares, this Tuesday (21), further aggravating the crisis generated by the derogatory comments made by Argentine president, Javier Milei, at an event held in the Spanish capital.

Albares added that the embassy in Argentina will now be headed by the chargé d'affaires.

The decision comes after Milei made derogatory comments about the wife of Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez during a far-right rally in Madrid over the weekend.

Milei called Sanchez's wife, Begona Gomez, “corrupt” at the event organized by the far-right party Vox and attended by many of its international allies.

The Argentine president said this Monday (20) in a TV interview that he will not apologize.
