“I can tell you that two more (HAWK anti-aircraft systems) will be sent. We are responding to a very specific request from NATO and Ukraine“, said the Minister of Defense of Spain Margarita Robles to journalists.
In addition to the two US-made HAWK anti-aircraft systems, Spain will deliver six self-propelled guns to Ukraine.
Last month, the government of Ukraine appealed to NATO members for further reinforcement to counter Russian missile and drone attacks, which have killed civilians and destroyed vital infrastructure such as power plants and water grid facilities.
The attacks were seen as Moscow’s retaliation for the explosion on a bridge in Crimea, which Russian President Vladimir Putin described as a “terrorist attack”.
