A total of 825 new state-of-the-art smartphones from two well-known manufacturers will be given away. In addition, the amount includes insurance and technical support costs.

In fact, as stated in the Government Gazette where the agreement was announced, MPs and staff need modern mobile phones after “helping with their work in Parliament”. It says that the previous devices it provided were from 2017 and would stop updating the operating system in 2023.

As the news broke, citizens and members of the opposition reacted to both the substance and the timing of this decision with citizens bracing for a difficult winter due to inflation and at a time when the return to desk increases costs and puts pressure on the family budgets of Spanish households.
