Holding flags of the former Soviet Union, thousands of protesters took to the streets of Madrid today to protest the holding of a NATO summit in the Spanish capital next week.
Amid tight security, the leaders of the member states will meet in Madrid between June 29 and 30, as the Alliance faces an unprecedented challenge from the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
NATO is expected to consider the request for membership in Finland and Sweden, which is also opposed by Turkey.
The two Nordic countries have applied for membership in the aftermath of the Russian attack on Ukraine.
Organizers claimed 5,000 people had joined the march, but authorities in Madrid said 2,200 were protesters.
