Spain: Unemployment drops by 10,968 people in July to its lowest in 15 years

As reported by the Communication Office of the Ministry of Labor and Social Security of Spain, the number of unemployed people registered in the offices of the State Public Employment Service (SEPE) has dropped by 10,968 (-0.41%) at the end of July compared to the previous month, chaining five months of consecutive falls.

Unemployment is at its lowest level since 2008

The total number of unemployed continues below 2.7 million, specifically it stands at 2,677,874. It is the lowest figure for any month since 2008.

At the year-on-year level, unemployment has fallen by 205,938 people (-7.14%).

By economic sector, compared to June, registered unemployment fell almost across the board. In services it is reduced by 7,126 people (-0.37%), in agriculture with 1,861 (-1.74%), in industry by 964 (-0.45%) while among the group without previous employment it decreases by 2,203 people (-0.89%) . Unemployment only increases in construction, with 1,186 joining the unemployment lists.

The total number of contracts registered during the month of July was 1,431,383. Of these, 566,440 are permanent employment contracts that represent 39.57% of all contracts.
