Spain will send to Ukraine in June a new batch of German Leopard 2A4 tanks, as well as missiles for the American Patriot air defense systems, as announced yesterday by the Ministry of Defense of Madrid. Defense Secretary Margarita Robles confirmed the impending handover during a video conference with her US counterpart Lloyd Austin, a press release from her services said. The government of Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez sent 10 such tanks to the Ukrainian last year and announced in March that it would make available an additional 19 this year, the first 10 by the end of June and the remaining nine by September. The stocks of the Spanish army include about one hundred Leopard 2A4s. The main battle tank of the Spanish armed forces is the much more modern Leopard 2A6; it has about 200 tanks.
