Spaniards (CAF) vs. French (ALSTOM) for the ‘lifting’ of 14 electric trains

Today is a special day for the electric or otherwise for the metro line 1.

The Board of Directors of STASY is expected, except unexpectedly, to announce the temporary contractor of the tender for the reconstruction of 14 trains, with an initial budget of 70 million euros (excluding VAT).

Two companies are participating in the tender: the Spanish Construcciones y Auxiliar de Ferrocarriles SA (CAF) and the French ALSTOM.

According to information from the railway market, the Spanish CAF seems to maintain a lead, something that remains to be seen in the current board of STASY.

The electric gradually changes “face”

The contractor of the project will undertake, within the framework of the detailed specifications and operational requirements, to deliver the 14 trains of the 8th receipt (entered into circulation between 1983 – 1985) fully upgraded and capable of productive operation for the next 25 years from the completion of the contract. .

The object of the project includes, among others, the replacement of windows, seats, maintenance of the air conditioning system, installation of a new floor and side walls, installation of LED lighting, a new closed circuit of cameras and public information screens.

At the same time, the trains will be accessible to the disabled, while the installation of seat belts for wheelchairs is also planned.

The delivery time of the contractual object was set at 34 months from the date of signing the contract.

However, the delivery of the trains will be done in parts, with the first renovated train being delivered in 19 months from the signing of the contract, another 4 in 25 months, another 5 in 30 months and the remaining 4 in 34 months.

It is noted that, in the context of strengthening the competitiveness of the electricity, STASY has launched on line 1 and trains of lines 2 and 3 of the metro, improving the time distances.

The electrician, who in addition to the age of the trains, also has to face the scourge of attacks after football matches, occupies the 3rd place in the preferences of the passengers of the public MMM.

Before the arrival of the pandemic, ie in 2019, 82.15 million boardings were made on the electric (line 1), 171.98 million boardings on the metro (lines 2 and 3) and 271.31 million boardings on the buses. Due to the pandemic and the restrictions on movement, in the two years 2020 – 21 there was a significant decline.
